IMPHAL, May 15: Defending champion United Taekwondo Academy (UTA) crowned overall champion in the 16th Governor’s Taekwondo Cup organized by All Manipur Taekwondo Association at Khuman Lampak Indoor Stadium.
UTA amassed 3444 points out of 13 golds, 19 silvers and 31 bronzes to claim the overall title as Pakhangbam Taekwondo Academy (PTA) scored 3190 points behind 20 golds, 6 silvers and 16 bronzes. champion. Held from May 12, a total of 630 athletes from 25 taekwondo units participated.

ASTA’s N Moramba defeated Thoubal’s S Imoba in the final to take the junior gold in the 27kg category, as PTA’s Thongam Tulajit defeated ASTA’s T Khagemba to take the 32kg gold.
The Asian Junior Women’s 24kg gold medal was won by PTA’s Linthoingambi Lourembam, who defeated UTA’s Yaisana Takhellambam in the final, while KANGLA’s Khwairakpam Chanbi defeated BTA’s Yaichenbi Khangembam for the 29kg gold medal.
NSA’s Nitesh Waribam (49kg) and N Tomb (57kg) beat ICLTA’s N Malemnganba and HTA’s Ch Nikhal respectively to take the Cadet Boys gold.
Meanwhile, CTI’s Jesica RK beat IMRTA’s Kangjam Taniya and UTA’s Soma Nongmai in the final – they took the cadet women’s gold medal in the 44kg category, while NSA’s N Rebeca won the 51kg cadet women’s category Set of gold medals.
In the Junior 59kg final, SAI-RC’s M Yaikhomba beat NSA’s E Rakesh to take the gold, while Marjing’s Thouna Mangang beat Bashikhong’s Toijam Bijen to take the 78kg gold.
Meanwhile, NSA’s Hafiz Khatun defeated NSA’s Laishram Lucky Chanu to take the women’s title in the 52kg category, while NSA’s Irengbam Chinguleima took the gold in the 68kg category.
UTA’s M Pareihanba defeated SAI-RC’s N Wilson in the final to win the men’s 68kg gold, while Nambol’s W Arson defeated UTA’s Toijam Tondonsana to take the 87kg gold.
UTA swept the medal table in the senior women’s event, Binita Laishram beat S Lamnganbi in the all-UTA final for the 57kg title and Maibam Jalika took the 73kg gold medal.
