Doctor Strange star Zara Phythian’s husband says sex abuse ‘victim’ made claim because she was ‘jealous’

The husband of Hollywood actress Zara Phythian, accused of sexually assaulting a schoolgirl, angrily told police “I’m not a paedophile”, a court has heard.

Taekwondo “guru” Victor Mark is accused of raising the young man from the age of 13 with his wife Zara, who starred alongside Benedict Cumberbatch in the 2016 Marvel hit Doctor Strange”.

Prosecutors allege the pair of martial arts experts routinely attacked the teenager at his home between 2005 and 2008 – incidents Victor filmed occasionally.

Jurors at Nottingham Crown Court have been told the alleged abuse began after Markes gave the girl rum and ‘dared’ her to have sex with Victor before Zara appeared in several films as Zara Phythian Behavior.

The assaults are said to have grown to include full sexual intercourse, with the event “carried out once or twice a month” and the girls, who cannot be named for legal reasons, were ordered to “not tell anyone”.

The court also heard how Victor denied being a paedophile in an interview with police, before adding that the girl could have retaliated with the charges because she was “jealous” of Zara’s success.

Markes was jointly charged with 14 counts of sexual activity with a child, which they deny.

Victor also pleaded not guilty to molesting a 15-year-old girl between 2002 and 2003.

Prosecutor Ahmad Hossein QC read to jurors a transcript of his police interview following his arrest on suspicion of a 2002/03 crime.

The 59-year-old was questioned in 2017 by Detective Inspector Parminder Dhillon of Notts Police Department, who said: “I’m outraged by what was said, the hearing heard.

“I don’t want to speak ill of her (the so-called victim) because I’m really pissed off.

“I know I’m playing this joke close to the border. I do it all the time. I chat like I’m 18.

“But if you want to say I’m a pedophile, I’m not.

“If that’s what you’re trying to say, I totally know right and wrong.”

When asked if he knew the reason for the allegations, Victor replied: “No, no, no, I don’t know where they came from.”

He added that the girl may have been “jealous” of Zara, 36, who appeared in Doctor Strange shortly before she made a police report.

Victor told Det Insp Dhillon: “When I broke up with my wife, I remember she was so shocked when I finally chose Zara. My impression was that she was very upset with me.

“Doctor Strange came out in November, and Zara went to the cinema.

“Has she (the so-called victim) had enough? Did she pee a little?

“I think some people may be aware of the jealousy between (the girl) and Zara.”

At one point he apologized for yelling when the individual claiming – he molested girls on multiple occasions – was handed over to Victor, saying: “This is a pedophile***. You have to stop this s*** now. .

“I swear to God, no. I don’t believe she said that. Something happened. I don’t believe she said that. Why did she say that? She had no reason to do it.

“Is she being pressured by someone? It’s a bull***. You gotta see her. I think she’s sick.

“I didn’t have sex or contact with her. I just wanted to go home. I need to tell my wife about it. I’m so pissed right now.

Victor then learned that some of his electronic devices had been confiscated. When asked “if they have anything in them that would give you trouble,” he replied: “Porn. Legal porn. If that’s what you’re suggesting, don’t use child products.

“There may be some private sex between me and my wife, something we like.

“You can shoot yourself, can’t you? It’s not illegal.

A second alleged victim, who had accused Victor and Zaramark of having sex with her, previously told a hearing that years later, when a policeman knocked on her mum’s door saying the first girl File a claim with Victor.

At the time, the court heard that taekwondo black belt Zara, from Nottsmansfield, was enjoying “unprecedented personal and professional success” with her acting career, including her role as a “brunette fanatic” in Doctor Strange. .

Girl says she ‘will never come forward’ and plans to ‘die with my shame’ – but recently became a mum and feels she ‘has no choice to tell my truth’ to stop anyone else being targeted as she claims.

Last Thursday, as Victor, from Ravenshead, Notts and Zara sat in the dock, giving evidence behind a screen, she added: “This is my deepest, darkest secret.

“I thought if I was going to say anything, my family would hate me. I really hated my mum back then. I was stuck because I had this secret and I couldn’t tell her.

In a videotaped interview, the alleged victim played the jury to police in which she recounted how Max “looted” her.

She said: “They saw my weakness and seized on it, saw my mum struggling and took advantage of that.

“I found it difficult, and they kind of guided me through all this (sexual activity).”

Talking about the alleged incident filming, she added: “I just remember him recording it once.

“I don’t know what he did to them. I never saw them again. I don’t want to see them. I’m ashamed. It’s a strength they have over me.

“I never knew how to get out of this situation. I couldn’t see a way out.

The alleged victim went on to claim that Markes “got me out of college in six months”, adding: “In a sense, they really ruined my education”.

She said she finally told a friend what happened when she was 18, and later got on the phone with Zara, telling jurors: “I said I’m not coming back.” Zara said, “Don’t come back, I burned all your stuff.”

The court had previously heard that Victor’s marriage broke down around 2005 after an affair with Zara, who was a teenager herself.

Addressing the jury at the start of the trial, Mr Hussain said: “Both defendants have earned admiration and respect in the martial arts community and the indictment is based on the fact that Victor Mark was a child between these two separate plaintiffs. When he nurtured them, he used his position of trust and authority to make them feel special in order to satisfy his sexual urges.

“Furthermore, the prosecution believes that Zara Marke was part of the process and that Zara Marke acted together with Victor Marke.”

In a subsequent police interview in March 2017, Victor was questioned after he and Zara were arrested for allegedly having sex with a second girl.

He told detectives that he and his wife met “through training” and got together after he separated from first wife Juliet, adding: “She helped me find an apartment and we ended up going. come together.

“Honestly, she’s the only one there for me. People don’t like a 40-year-old hanging out with a 19-year-old.

Police also asked Victor if the couple possessed any sex toys.

He replied, “You gotta ask Zara,” before adding, “Dildos, gags, whips, panel stuff.

“Nothing illegal, just Victoria’s Secret stuff. A bed strap stuff where you tie someone to the bed.

The court heard the couple were also involved in filming their sex and rocking with a Go Pro camera. However, Victor would not comment on the latter, telling police: “I don’t want to talk about my sex life with Zara anymore.”

Victor then admitted he had sex with the girl on four occasions – but claimed it was after she was 18 and it was “consensual”.

He went on to say that the alleged victims were “evil”, “harmful” and “crazy”.

The trial continues.
