Sonic 2 introduces Shadow, the Ultimate Lifeform, leaving many to wonder how strong he is in Sonic 3 compared to Sonic and Knuckles.
Shadow the Hedgehog is set to appear in Sonic the Hedgehog 3, and many wonder just how strong Shadow is compared to Sonic and Knuckles. Even though Shadow only has a few seconds of screentime in Sonic movies so far, it’s likely he’ll be the main villain sonic 3, with his powerful abilities making him a huge threat to the titular blue blur. By looking at Shadow’s history in games, comics, and more Sonic-media related, one can guess how strong Shadow will enter Sonic the Hedgehog 3.
Shadow is one of them Sonic the franchise’s most iconic characters, with the edgy antihero a staple of the series since his first appearance in Sonic Adventure 2. Shadow is a product of Project Shadow, an experiment conducted by Gerald Robotnik in an attempt to find immortality. Even though the militant organization GUN shut down Project Shadow 50 years before the events Sonic the Hedgehog 2as the film’s post-credits scene shows, Shadow finally awakens.
Throughout the game, Shadow has faced off with Sonic many times. Even though he was nicknamed The Ultimate Lifeform, when compared to Sonic and Knuckles at the base level, he wasn’t much different. The main leg that Shadow has in Sonic is his power. Although he is on par with Sonic in fighting ability, Shadow’s strength makes him an enemy to be reckoned with. Shadow single-handedly defeats Eggman’s creations and even supernatural gods like Black Doom. While Knuckles may be able to defeat Shadow, Shadow’s agility and intelligence usually allow him to overpower the echidna quickly. As a product of his creation, Shadow has the power of immortality, another ability he possesses over Sonic and Knuckles. In battle, Shadow will likely always beat Sonic and Knuckles in terms of a head-to-head brain or muscle fight.
However, in terms of speed, Shadow slightly lost. Sonic is the fastest thing alive, reaching hypersonic speeds without breaking a sweat. While Shadow is still faster than Knuckles and Tails, his speed is not due to his strength, but to his Air Shoes. With Air Shoes on, Shadow can run up buildings and across ceilings, outrun bullets, and attack so fast that the eye can’t see them. Even though Shadow wasn’t as fast as Sonic, he wasn’t too far behind. Without his shoes, however, he’s not that fast.
Shadow’s power levels mentioned above are all in his basic form. However, due to his natural ability to harness chaos energy, Shadow can far exceed his usual abilities. Unlike most other characters, Shadow can harness the power of the Chaos Emeralds without actually touching them. This not only increased his strength, endurance, and speed, but also allowed him to use Chaos Control. Chaos Control is powerful, allowing Shadow to bend and freeze time, teleport, heal, create explosions, and even control space itself. By harnessing Shadow’s chaos energy, the hedgehog becomes almost unstoppable, something that is likely to be seen in sonic 3.
Shadow the Hedgehog could be on par with Sonic and Knuckles or it could be one of the most powerful entities ever. As long as he wasn’t close enough to the Chaos Emeralds to harness their energy, Sonic and Knuckles combined should be able to defeat The Ultimate Lifeform. However, as sonic 2‘s ending, it is very possible that Shadow the Hedgehog’s full potential will be displayed in Sonic the Hedgehog 3.
