Originating in ancient India and passed down orally through the ages, yoga has become a widely popular practice that brings the body and mind to stillness of mind and clear self-awareness. This release and finding a balance between chaos and stressors requires an environment that allows the senses to be free from distractions and focus on the self. To facilitate immersion in practice, it is helpful to have a layout of spaces that are simple, safe and secluded. Further design concerns include promoting gentle and regulated airflow through controllable temperatures and subdued lighting. The mood that a space can generate can also be channeled through the use of light colors or warm natural materials such as wood.
