Tika Sumpter and Nicholas James are married.
Actor Hollis, a New York native, 41, and 38, exchanged vows Saturday in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico at Chileno Bay Resort at the Auberge Resorts Collection, according to Brides.
“We’re excited to be together and continue our journey,” Sumpter told the wedding outlet. We both walked down the aisle with clear eyes, knowing that weddings weren’t just for parties. It really was for us.’

He posted on Instagram Sunday: ‘I had to marry my best friend yesterday. My heart is so full. Friends and family are everything. Everyone involved in making girls’ dreams come true.’
Sumpter, who shares daughter Ella-Loren, five, with James, first met the actor when they worked together on the OWN show The Haves and the Have Nots.
The Sonic the Hedgehog star told Brides that they chose to get married in Cabo San Lucas in the hopes of blending a holiday experience for guests, not too far from their California homebase.
“I didn’t always want a destination wedding,” says Sumpter. ‘It was just something that came to my mind. One of our first trips abroad was Anguilla, and Mexico really has a beautiful island feel, so why don’t we do it in Cabo?’

The couple, who met while working together on the OWN show The Haves and the Have Nots, are the parents of five-year-old daughter Ella-Loren. They were spotted together earlier this month
Sumpter said he and James aim for guests to ‘have fun and celebrate this long and wonderful journey we are on.’
The mixed actress said she was looking for a ‘modern boho-chic’ theme when she wore a Galia Lahav strapless wedding gown while James wore a pale blue Milton Franc ensemble.
Sumpter and James exchange vows on the beach and the reception is held at a restaurant on the resort. Sumpter told the publication that he and his partner enjoyed working on wedding planning with Ximena Perez of Amy Abbott Events.
‘My favorite part of the planning process is seeing all the names of my upcoming friends and family,’ says Sumpter. ‘Each one makes me smile, so it makes me even more excited to plan something beautiful. I want everyone to have fun. I really think about my friends, my family, my future husband – it’s not just for me.
‘It was a real celebration of all those who have kept us on this journey to make it this way. They really are part of that thread. It’s almost like a gift for them to really love where they are, have fun together, and have a great time overall.’

The Ride Along actress said she wasn’t sure ‘how much would change with the newlyweds’ stamp,’ as they ‘only cemented what [they] already in the exchange of vows.
“It would be nice to call Nick my husband and hear him call me his wife,” said Sumpter. This is a continuation of the journey, but I can’t wait to do what we’ve been doing, which ensures that we have a solid foundation. Make sure we are strong. This is not a sprint, this journey, this is definitely not a sprint.’
The Gossip Girl alum initially opened up about her engagement to The Real in January 2017 following a proposal from James on Christmas Day the previous month.
Sumpter last year chatted with Essence about his delayed marriage due to the coronavirus pandemic lockdown.
“Literally after this pandemic is over, I want to throw a party,” he said. ‘I was like, yo, we all deserve a party. You know what I mean? Like, we deserve a party.
‘I’m more about fair, the family is getting older, some family members are dying from complications of COVID, so more than ever now it’s about just getting family and friends – for me is life.’
