Sharjah Women’s Sports Club team wins karate championship

The Sharjah Women’s Sports Club has won the team sparring at the Karate Championships and won the championship in the 2021-2022 season hosted by the Sharjah Sports Club in Hazzana.

Yazia Al Khalid, Maryam Mansour and Enas Al Salami were part of the Sharjah Women’s Sports Club team that won the karate championship. Sharjah Self-Defense Sports Club, Golden Dragon Karate Club and Ahli Youth Club also participated.

Maryam said she was delighted to have won the first place in the karate tournament, noting that the team faced stiff competition from players from other clubs, but the cohesion of the team contributed to the team’s success.

Maryam also commended His Highness Sheikha Jawaher Bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, the Ruler of Sharjah and the wife of the Chairman of the Sharjah Women’s Sports Foundation (SWSF), for her unwavering support for women’s sport and the means for female athletes to achieve success and glory, achieving countless victory.

The female players of the club also won the bronze medal in the youth group of the group hand project.

The Sharjah Women’s Sports Club was represented by Al Yazia Khaled, Jumana Al Agouz, Amna Barakat and Fajr Lashkariah. The tournament saw the participation of seven clubs including Sharjah Women’s Sports Club, Sharjah Self-Defense Sports Club, Golden Dragon Karate Club, Shabab Al Ahly Club, Sharjah Club, Al Dhaid Club and Al-Khaleej Club.

Well-known karate player Hawraa Al Ajmi of the Sharjah Women’s Sports Club competes in the World League competition in Portugal from April 22 to 24.

This is the player’s second title in 2022 after the league title in Fujairah, and she achieved an impressive 40th in the world under 50kg ranking, especially from the world 55 342 players from 10 countries participated in the competition.

Hawraa are eager to maintain their rankings and seek to move up to a better position and gain experience from playing in the World League and prepare for all future competitions.

Meanwhile, in the group stage of the basketball match, Sharjah Women’s Basketball defeated Sharjah Women’s Basketball (Al Wusta Detachment) 48-39, while Jam Academy defeated Sharjah Women’s Basketball (Eastern Region) 71-26.
