Terang karate champion Gil Cole is heading to New Caledonia just months after being drafted into Australia’s squad for the Oceania Cup. Cole is one of 21 people who have been selected by the Australian Karate Federation Board of Directors and the National Coaches Council for the Oceania Cup to be held in Noumea, New Caledonia, from June 5 to June 6. will represent their country. She said it was an honour to play in her first Oceania Championships and to represent Australia. “I’ve never been there and I’ve heard it’s good, so I’m looking forward to going to the competition,” she said. More athletic dedication is synonymous with Funakoshi Karate members, who spend hours training and preparing every weekend. She said training has definitely been key for her ahead of the cup and she will keep that in the prep to keep things fresh and hungry. “I’ve been training with the Victorian team and I’ve been going to Melbourne to train with them almost every Saturday for 18 weeks from March to August,” she said. “It confirms the fact that I think I’ve been training hard and putting in the effort.
